School regulations

 (1)Uniform

 A. Students are required to wear uniforms in accordance with regulations on campus (service uniform, chefs’ uniforms or sport outfits). Please pay attention to your department’s regulations about uniforms. For campus safety please wear uniforms when taking leave, on business trips or when going to the library.

  1. During PE class (Physical Education) please wear sports clothes with sports shoes (do not wear non-standard sports clothes or uniform).
  2. If special clothing is needed for a group activity, please apply for approval. Please wear school clothes to enter or leave the campus and change into and out of special clothing at the event venue.
  3. Wearing slippers is not permitted.
  4. Students affected by illness or injury who feel discomfort when wearing the uniform can wear sports clothes after applying for and receiving permission.

  B. Male: Khaki or black trousers, long or short sleeve white shirt, school tie, standard leather shoes, blazer (vest is optional).

Female: Khaki or black skirt or trousers, long or short sleeve white shirt, school scarf, standard leather high heel shoes, blazer (skirts must not be shorter than 10cm above the knees).

Chef uniform: According to the regulations for each department, with the correct neckerchief, dark leather shoes or safety shoes (including for elective courses).

Service uniform: According to the regulations for each department, with bow tie and vest, standard leather shoes (including for elective courses).

Hair should be its natural hair color. If not, you will be asked to return to the original color. Please do not cut, or perm your hair in an unusual or distracting way.

This is an uncredited required course to develop and cultivate a hospitality service attitude. A passing grade or above is required for this course. If you are unable to attend apply for leave in advance. More information please refer to the link.

Conduct Grades

University conduct grades are to encourage students to cultivate good virtues and habits, a sense of responsibility, civic pride, and a sense of honor so as to develop an excellent school ethos.

The rewards for the students are categorized into prizes, medals, honor certificates, commendations, minor merits, and major merits.

The punishments for students are divided into admonition, minor demerits, major demerits, being expelled from school, and expulsion from academic status.

Leaves/absences, rewards/reprimands all impact the conduct grade, which begins as a base level of 82.

A. Standards for assigning scores for daily attendances and absences:

  1. For each hour of absence, 1 point is deducted.
  2. For each tardiness and each dismissal, 0.5 points are deducted.
  3. For each 20 hours of sick leave or each 10 hours of personal leave, 1 point is deducted.
  4. No points are deducted for maternity or paternity leaves that are applied for in accordance with the NKUHT Student Leave Regulations.
  5. For funeral leave of less than 7 days, no points are deducted. Funeral leaves for non-immediate family members are considered as personal leaves.
  6. For official business leaves, no points are deducted.
  7. For students who do not meet the standards of dress etiquette and grooming, 0.5 points are deducted each time as recorded by the teacher during roll call.
  8. For special school events and important meetings, actual hours are counted (those exceeding half an hour shall be counted as 1 hour).

B. Rewards and reprimands

  1. One point is given for a commendation, 3 points are given for a minor merit, and 9 points are given for a major merit.
  2. One point is subtracted for a warning, 3 points are subtracted for a minor demerit, and 9 points are subtracted for a major demerit.

C. In the following conditions the student will not receive a score of excellent:

        A.  More than one major demerit.

 B.  Absent class for more than 8 hours.

         C.  Other significant misconduct.

D.  An additional 3 points will be given to students with perfect attendance, excluding interns. Those who only have public service leave and bereavement leave will be considered to have perfect attendance; those who have a record of leaving early or        being late are excluded.

E.  At graduation, rewards for excellent disciplinary grades will be given to the best student. If the student cannot graduate for some reason, the rewards will be given to the student with the next highest disciplinary grades. The graduating conduct              grade is the average of every semester and 82 is the basic score. The terms counted for grading are: 8 semesters for four-year technical school students, 4 semesters for two-year technical school students, 4 semesters for two-year college students            and 10 semesters for five-year college students.

F.   In order to construct an early warning system, students with minor demerits or above, conduct grades less than 68 or who have been absent 10 classes or more will have their parents, guardian, class advisor and counseling instructors            notified.

G.   Students can go online and check their conduct grades at any time. If there are any questions, please go to the Student Services Section of the Student Affairs Office within two weeks. All changes should be made before the last 2 weeks of each semester.

H.   Students with a failing conduct grade (less than 60) and have been sanctioned by a student disciplinary meeting, subject to approval from the President, will be expelled by the university. Acadmic Affairs Office/ Regulations/Academic Rules and Regulations

Demerit removal

To remove a demerit from the record the student needs to apply to the office that issued the demerit and will be given work hours to serve. The Student Services Section of Student Affairs Office is responsible for removing demerits. 

  1. After the demerit is issued students should apply for and complete the service hours. If approval is given by the unit that issued the demerit and the Dean of Student Affairs Office, then apply to the personal counseling section to have the demerit removed.
  2. For students on internship, the same demerit removal procedure applies. After the internship ends, students should complete their duty within four weeks of returning to school. However, only the record can be canceled, the conduct grade will remain the same.
  3. The conduct grade, application for leave and rewards and punishments are available on line. Please apply in advance for leave and demerit removal online. The form should be printed out and submitted for approval.

  1. Please regularly check the absence records and conduct grades on the student counseling system. If you have any questions, go to the Student Services Section within two weeks of the absence/grade. Overdue corrections are not allowed. Students with a conduct grade below 60 will be discussed in a rewards and punishment committee meeting in accordance with school regulations.

Leave

Students should apply for leave if unable to attend classes, turn in assignments or attend examinations, registration, education services and related activities (e.g. special school events, e.g. celebrations, opening ceremony, graduation and other assemblies). Absence without permission is considered a class absence.

For information about leave and required documents please check "Student Leave Regulation". If any document is found to be false it will be considered a class absence and subject to the reward and punishment regulations.

        Types of leave and the required documents are as follows:

      A.   Personal leave:

  1. Personal leave: Letters from parents, guardian or other certifications
  2. Marriage leave (one week): Provide original copy of the household registration.
  3. Sick leave: Certification from the NKUHT health center, a clinic or a hospital (Certifications from public hospitals are required for sick leave during registration or examinations).
  4. Menstruation leave: (Only for girls. 22 days is considered a cycle.) The leave can be taken once a cycle for one day at a time. No certification is required.
  5. Bereavement leave: A funeral notice, household registration booklet, household registration, and death certificate are required. Bereavement leave is allowed only for the death of an immediate family member, such as parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, or permanent cohabitant. If the bereavement leave for a single event lasts longer than one week, the exceeding days will be considered personal leave.
  6. Pregnancy leave: With proof from a hospital or clinic registered by The Bureau of National Health Insurance, students can take pregnancy leave for 8 days before the birth. Any of the 8 days unused before the birth cannot be carried over. After the child is born, a leave of 42 days is granted. If miscarriage occurs after five months, a leave of 42 days is also granted. If miscarriage occurs after three months but less than five months, a leave of 21 days is granted. If miscarriage occurs in the first three months, a leave of 14 days is granted. Pregnancy leave and miscarriage leave will be consecutive.
  7. Paternity leave: 3 days with proof from a hospital or a clinic registered by the Bureau of National Health Insurance. The days can be taken before or after the birt

 

 

  1.    Public service leave: Those who are assigned to represent the school and perform public affairs, activities or competitions need a leave application with authorization from the teacher or section responsible.     If more than 10 students want leave, the class teacher should be notified. If the whole class needs to take leave, the Registration and Curriculum Section should be notified.
  2.    Military affairs: Documents from military authorities should be submitted.
  3.    Certification or national exams: Admission ticket or other documents from public authorities should be submitted.
  4.    Internship interviews or visa for overseas internship: authorization from the Research and Development Office or the International Affairs Office.
  5.    Student services agency assignments shall submit proof of service and other relevant official documents.

Except for sick leave or paternity leave, leave should be applied for in advance online and the application form should be printed out and submitted to the Students Service Section. For unexpected events or special circumstances, personal leave should be applied for within 10 days. After submitting the application please check online to see if your personal leave has been approved.

  1.   Leave application procedure:
  1. Log in to the "Student Affairs Information System" on the school’s website and fill in information regarding your request.
  2. Print the leave request (A4 paper).
  1.   Sequence of authority for submitting the leave form in person:
  1. If the leave is less than 3 days, permission can be given first by the class advisor or the head of the department, and then by the Chief of Service Section or an instructor by signature.
  2. If the leave is more than 3 days but less than a week, permission should be given first by the class advisor, then by the head of the department, and finally by the Student Services Section or an instructor.
  3. If the leave is more than a week, permission should be given first by the class advisor, then by the head of the department, the chief of Students Services Section or an instructor, and finally by the Dean of Student Affairs Office (Dean of Continuing Education).

C.   Leave during registration or examinations:

  1. Students should take registration leave in accordance with " Student Registration and Registration Leave Request Implementation Guideline".

(8)Standard for evaluating leaves/absences

A.    A deduction of 1 point will be given for each hour absent from class

B.    A deduction of 0.5 points will be given for being late or leaving early

C.    A deduction of 1 point will be given for 20 hours of sick leave or 10 hours of personal leave

D.    If applied for before the deadline, no deduction will be given for maternity or paternity leave.

E.    No deduction will be given for bereavement leave. Bereavement leave for non-immediate family members will be considered as personal leave.

F.     No deduction will be given for public service leave.

G.    A deduction of 0.5 points will be given for disorderly clothing during the roll call in class and will be recorded by the teacher.

H.    Absences for important school meetings or events are recorded as absences (in excess of ½ hour is considered one hour)
